Welcome to Family and Consumer Science!

Here's What's Happening in Family and Consumer Sciences!

FCCLA
As a FACS student, you are given the rich experience of participating in our school's chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Activities include extensive service opportunities, competing in events, showcasing work, and building life-long leadership skills (this stuff looks great on college applications!). Plus, there will be field trips....woot woot!

Courses Offered:

Culinary Arts/Restaurant Management (Integrated as one course)
Get ready to get cooking! In Culinary Arts, we’ll learn about nutrition, food safety and food prep, and explore the joys of creating, eating, and sharing delicious kitchen concoctions. You’ll even get an opportunity to bring back a Cole tradition – The Green Table! Students will plan, prepare, execute, and deliver meals for teachers while raising money for scholarships and field trips.

Human Growth and Development
Have you ever wondered why you are who you are? In Human Growth and Development, we’ll explore the physical, emotional, and cognitive changes we humans experience across the lifespan that make us unique. This class is one of personal discovery as well as an opportunity to learn about human behavior, personality, relationship and parenting styles, and much, much more. You’ll even get an opportunity to experience caring for a newborn baby and all the many demands that come with it!

Fashion Design
Welcome all fashionistas and creative minds!  This class takes an inside look at what it takes to dive into the Fashion Industry and includes learning such skills as designing, sketching, garment construction, pattern-making, and more.  You'll get friendly with a sewing machine and have lots of projects to keep you on your feet all year long.
